Shake off Envy

Posted: June 14, 2011 in Uncategorized

Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.
-James 4:4

A good friend of mine told me , “Jonathan, being a Christain is like being married… You either are married or you’re not”. A lot of people today like to be both at the same time… You know, have their cake and eat it to. Why not they say, just one little bite won’t hurt… Come on Jonathan, this won’t bring you down. Some envy the wicked. I myself have asked God why He doesn’t punish the bad behavior of others and why can’t I have that nice Mercedes instead? Why do they have to have the big expensive cars and the nice house. Why Lord can they have children but, I cannot? Why am I being punished instead?

As in James 4:5 tells us, “What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the spirit God has placed within us is filled with envy?” But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.” The Lord loves His faithfull children and punishes the wicked in His time. Perhapes not too soon because God has a plan. Maybe He needs to bring that sinner to his knees before he or she repents. Maybe that load of luxury has been given to that person to test them. Remember “He without Sin, cast the first stone.”

James 4:6 also reminds us, “so humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.”

God Bless and keep your heads up and remember we are not planted or rooted here on earth. We all need to shake off our depression, our envy and our wants and trust in our Lord that He will provide to us what We need to do His will.
