The Pharisees and their teachers of religious law complained bitterly to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with such scum?” Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor — sick people do. I have come to call sinners to turn from their sins, not to spend my time with those who think they are already good enough.”
Luke 5:30-32

In the passage above, we find Luke writing about Jesus, when He called Levi, a Tax Collector, to become His disciple.  In Luke 5 we read, “Later, as Jesus left the town, he saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at his tax-collection booth. “Come, be my disciple!” Jesus said to him.” Luke 5:27. What did Levi do? Well, lets find out… Luke goes on to say in verse 28, “So Levi got up, left everything, and followed him.”  After Jesus called Levi to be His disciple, Levi dropped everything and followed Jesus. And that’s exactly what Jesus wants  us to do when He calls as well… to drop our old bad habits. Our sinfull lives and follow Him. When Jesus calls you, He wants you that very second. There is no, “wait I forgot..” or “let me say good-bye to…” No, when our Lord calls you, now is the time.

When we continue to read the book of Luke, we find Luke going on to say in verse 29-30, “Levi held a banquet in his home with Jesus as the guest of honor. Many of Levi’s fellow tax collectors and other guests were thereThe Pharisees and their teachers of religious law complained bitterly to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with such scum?” Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor — sick people do. I have come to call sinners to turn from their sins, not to spend my time with those who think they are already good enough.” Jesus was telling the Pharisees that He spends His time with those who need it most. We all need to be saved, but those of us who already accepted Christ as savior need to help those who have yet to do so. I am not saying not to fellowship with our saved brothers and sisters, no. I am saying that we must re-evalute who we choose to evangelize to. Church is a great place for continued fellowship, but its what we do with our spare time when we are away from the flock is where it counts.

We must all do our parts to evangelize with those who need to be saved first. What good does it do for saving your friends lost soul when we spent all our time with our Pastor instead? How can we attempt to lead our lost brothers and sisters to Christ, when we have yet to speak to them about Christ. You see, we all need to re-prioritize our ways in which we preach the Word of God to the world. We all need to start talking with people we have never spoken to before. If the message sticks, great! If not, do as Jesus did and dust the dirt off your foot… Basically, don’t waste time preaching the same message, over and over to those who do not want to hear it. Go on to the next person and preach it brother, preach it sister! Regardless if you are an evangelist, a Pastor, a violinist, a member of the Ushers, a teacher or even just a child… We are a Servants of the Lord first and we all have a mission to preach the Gospel to the world first then we can truly be called a Disciple of God.
