Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing.
2 Corinthians 2:15

Have you ever stopped to notice the difference between a true Christian and one who is not? I know I can notice. There is a fragrance of peace and life around a true Christian. You feel at peace when you are in their presence. Yet, the same for a non-Christian… You too can notice the exact opposite. The fragrance they permeate is bad. Their lives are empty. And you feel emotionally drained when you around them.

As it is written in 2 Corinthians 2:15-17, “To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this? You see, we are not like the many hucksters who preach for personal profit. We preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ’s authority, knowing that God is watching us.”

It is with God’s authority Paul preached the gospel throughout the many lands he had traveled. He knew that what he was instructing the people of God was from God and no one else. He knew this because he had a great fear of God like none else. He knew because he was a teacher he would be held more accountable than all the rest. When the Lord puts you in a place of leadership over others. Oh my, my brothers and sisters… Oh my. With leadership comes great joy but, also should bring great fear as well.

It is like Obama. Yes, I’ll use our President for this purpose and hopefully this is hypothetical. So okay, imagine this: Obama just signed a deal with another nation to give them more jobs but, in the same since… us Americans that are counting on him to help us all succeed where failed. We lost our jobs, and to some, our very lives because Obama wanted to help some but, he forgot about the others standing in front of him. Now who do we all hold accountable. Should we yell at his daughters? Should we yell at his Gardner? No… We would hold Obama responsible because he is the President and is responsible for millions.

Just as Pastors are responsible for the people, so are the ministers, evangelist, authors, elders, deacons, and whatever else there may be. Remember, all who are put in charge of another will be judged by our Lord Jesus harder than all the rest because the Lord says there is a great reward waiting, but in the same since… Greater punishment will follow for those of us who have caused someone to fall because of their leadership. Even so, even if you are a leader of a club, an organization, a fraternity, an author. If if has nothing to do with God, then cut it out of your life and repent. Sure you get to dress up in fancy clothing in your clubs, wear tuxedos, suites, and cool looking uniforms. Sure you get the respect and honor here on earth. Sure you have cool titles and sit in seats of honor but let me remind you and I will quote this from our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 6:2 NLT, “they have received all the reward they will ever get.”

So in closing: Brothers, Sisters… Please look at your lives right now. Focus on who your sphere of influence is. Ask yourself this: is what I am doing right now, for God or, for myself. Is what I am doing right now, glorifying the Lord or, does it glorify myself ? If for one second, you think it is something other than God, I would seriously re-evaluate my life and change immediately as I have done. Let me share something with you, I once was a Freemason. I was a Master Mason actually. Yes… I was lost. I was blinded. I too, sat on the “seats of honor” and wore my tuxedo. I wore my Masters apron, but it was all for nothing, but my own glory and for myself and no one else. It was such a waste of valuable time that I will never get back. Yet, this was before I was saved and before I was baptized. I have since rebuked my old life. “Died to self,” remember me saying that you must die to self? Well, I died to my old life . Gave everything up… I mean everything.

In life, we must make very difficult discussions to better walk with the Lord. We must choose our paths carefully. We must re-evaluate our sphere of influence and who influence’s us as well. Remember, when we walk with death, we too are dead. When we walk with life, we too will live. So today, right now, this very moment I want you to ask the Lord this, I will do it with you. “Lord, we come broken and lost because we’ve tried it our way. We tried it on our own, but failed. Lord we life our lives up to you to cleanse them of all that is dead and gone. We ask and trust you will wash all the old and we finally allow you our Lord, to guide our lives and speak through us and use us as a prophet, a teacher, a preacher, a pastor for you our God, we love you, AMEN”.
